We were at a loss about how to properly and adequately recognize the contributions that Matthew Grant Fuller has made to the Philosophy Faculty and the students of St. Philip's College over the last five years (2014 - 2019).
Over the years, he has received the "Teaching Excellence Award for Philosophy" (2015) and the "International Education Award for Philosophy" (2019) from the Philosophy Faculty. Matthew Fuller also received the 2017 NISOD Excellence Award for Teaching from the College of Education at the University of Texas at Austin for his teaching at St. Philip’s College. This is a national distinction for distinguished service to his students.
So, we needed a distinction that recognized the totality of his (1) excellent teaching; (2) the international nature of his research, writing, publishing, and conference presentations; (3) his international study abroad and service trips; (4) his role as an Advisor for the Philosophy Club and Coach to the Ethics Bowl Team; and (5) his leadership as our Department Chair. With that in mind, we have voted him the Inaugural Philosophy Laureate:
"For outstanding contributions to the field of Philosophy and for dedicated service to St. Philip's College the Philosophy Faculty appoint you to the office of Philosophy Laureate for the year 2020."
Congratulations! Matthew Grant Fuller, this is a hard earned, well deserved accolade from your colleagues.
