Obituary

"Very Rev. Dr. John J Travis—priest, theologian, scholar, philosopher, professor emeritus and author left this earth to meet his Creator on February 25, 2022.

He was a faithful servant of God and the Church and emanated love—agape—to all around him with his infectious smile and positive outlook. He always put the needs of others before his own and sought out those in need—“the world is my parish” His greatest passion was books and he enjoyed physical fitness and swimming.

With great devotion to his family, he is survived by his mother, Kristalea; brother Jim (Anna); nephews, Sebastian, Elias; niece Zoe (Joshua); cousins and relatives in the US and in Greece.

There will be a Trisagion service at the Cathedral at 7 p.m. on Tues. March 8th. Funeral Service is at 11:30 a.m. preceded by Pre-sanctified Liturgy at 9:30 a.m. at the Assumption Greek Orthodox Cathedral on Wed. March 9th.

A recording of the service will be live-streamed for those who are unable to attend in person.

Donations can be made to Assumption Greek Orthodox Cathedral, Brotherhood of St. George and/or UC Health Cancer Center.

Please share memories and condolences with the family at the Tribute Wall above."
