Anthony Edward Givhan, Ph.D.

Anthony E. Givhan, Ph.D. is an Instructor of Philosophy in the Social and Behavioral Sciences Department at St. Philip's College. He earned his Doctor of Philosophy degree in 2014 from Michigan State University (his dissertation,"The Role of Values in Theory Choice:  Debating Biological Race," is at:  https://d.lib.msu.edu/etd/3349

Dr. Givhan holds graduate degrees from Western Michigan University and Grand Rapids Theology Seminary.  He earned a Master of Arts degree in Philosophy from Western Michigan University, where he wrote "David Hume and the Design Argument: A Critical Examination" (2000). Masters Theses. 3460.

Dr. Givhan previously taught at the University of Michigan - Flint, as a Lecturer.

He has been married to his wife Verma for over 40 years and has five adult children.  When he is not doing philosophy he enjoys spending time with his six grandchildren.

Dr. Givhan received the The Teaching Excellence Award for Philosophy from the Philosophy Faculty in May of 2023.
