A Historic Milestone in 2024

For the first time in the 50 year history of the Philosophy Faculty there is member at every rank and title.
This is a reflection of the growth and development of the faculty, the college and the city of San Antonio.
This also reflects the distinguished leadership of Dr. Marie Feldmeier, who guided the Philosophy Faculty
in the five years leading up to this moment. She led the faculty searches and built the esprit de corps of the group in the finest tradition of Connie Economy, our first Instructor of Philosophy (1973), and Ann Riordan, our first tenured member of the Faculty (1988).

The first two Philosophy courses, 309 Logic and 310 Ethics, were taught at St. Philip’s College during the 1973-1974 academic year by Connie Economy, the first instructor of Philosophy and Ethics.

In AY 2023-2024, we celebrated the 50th anniversary of the teaching of Philosophy at St. Philip’s College, and we recognized and celebrated those who have served the students of the College over these five decades.

There was much to celebrate:

1) 125th Anniversary of St. Philip's College
2) 50th Anniversary of Teaching Philosophy at St. Philip's College
3)  10th Anniversary of the Philosophy Club

Prof. Riordan was promoted to Associate Professor of Philosophy in the Spring of 1988 and was granted tenure in the Fall of 1988 (the article lists her Department as "Psychology" because at the time there was a combined Department of Psychology and Philosophy). She was later promoted again, becoming the Philosophy Faculty's first Professor of Philosophy.

Dr. Dunagan was a member of the faculty at
